Hooke’s law

If the deformation is small, the stress in a body is proportional to the corresponding strain.

By Hooke’s law, for small deformations,

Tensile stress/Tensile strain = Y is a constant for a given material
Y is termed as Young’s modulus.

Y = (F/A)/ (ΔL/L) = FL/(A ΔL)
